MANCHESTER CITY intends to execute a £50.3 million acquisition of Martin Zubimendi in January, following his prior rejection of Liverpool six months ago.
The 25-year-old Real Sociedad midfielder was a target for Anfield during the summer and was near finalizing a transfer before a reversal resulted in his retention.
Martin Zubimendi has become a transfer target for Manchester City in January.
Spain’s Euro champion underlined last month his desire to continue at his childhood club, Sociedad, stating: “The optimal solution is to stay.”
“I aspire to cultivate and advance in this environment.”
However, sources assert that Zubimendi has experienced a change of perspective and is now eager to participate in the Premier League.
This has placed the City on heightened alert.
Their inability to manage the prolonged absence of injured Ballon d’Or winner Rodri persisted with yesterday night’s 2-1 setback against Brighton, marking their fourth consecutive loss.
Zubimendi, who substituted for Rodri at halftime during Spain’s 2-1 victory over England in the Euros final, would serve as an exemplary replacement.

Rodri, 28, is sidelined for the season due to an ACL rupture sustained during the 2-2 draw against Arsenal in September.
The duo has represented their country together, providing City with the prospect of an enticing defensive midfield tandem upon Rodri’s return.
Although manager Pep Guardiola seems hesitant to pursue substantial acquisitions in the January transfer window, Zubimendi’s contract release clause would pose no obstacle.
The city’s subpar performance and injury burden may need a reevaluation, since Guardiola is reluctant to exert excessive pressure on his younger athletes.
Ongoing ambiguity around the Spaniard’s personal future may be a significant impediment.
He has not yet made a definitive decision regarding his plans post-summer.
