Norway defeated Slovenia 4-1 with to goals and assists from Erling Haaland, while England defeated Greece 3-0 because to strong performances from Kyle Walker and Rico Lewis. Here is how the five City players who were on international assignment performed on Thursday night.
Norway 1-4 Slovenia
Erling Haaland scored for Norway and had a chance to score a hat-trick against Slovenia in the first half..
When the score was 1-1 on minute 26, the City striker, who was once again wearing the captain’s armband in Martin Odegaard’s absence, struck the post.
Before that, Slovenia tied the score after 20 minutes when Benjamin Sesko scored from the penalty spot, but Antonio Nusa had given the Norwegians the lead after just four minutes. After being sent free by Sander Berge, Haaland scored his 35th goal in 38 games for Norway by putting a low shot past the charging Jan Oblak with a deft left-foot finish of 45.
Additionally, he nearly scored again in extra time when Oblak made a great save on a rising shot.
At the Stožice Stadium in Ljubljana, Nusa scored his second goal of the match shortly before the hour, bringing Norway’s lead to 3-1.
Haaland finished off a great evening by helping Jens Petter Hauge score a goal on 79 to make it 4-1. With three minutes left, the Blues’ No. 9 was changed.
With the victory, Norway and Austria are now tied for third place in League B Group 3.
England 0–3 Greece
In the Nations League match against Greece, Kyle Walker led England as captain for the third time.
The City captain, who was awarded cap number 92, had a strong first forty-five minutes, with Ollie Watkins giving England the lead in the fifth minute.
In his fifth national team debut, Rico Lewis started at left-back and put on a brilliant through pass to Watkins in first-half added time. However, the Aston Villa striker fumbled his lines, lost possession of the ball, and the opportunity went begging.
Walker moved into central defense after Ezri Konsa was replaced at halftime, while Lewis shifted to right-back following the restart.
And the City kid nearly scored his first goal for his country when he sent Madueke’s cross on goal, but Odysseas Vlachodimos made a great stop.
Further goals from Vlachodimos (own goal, 77) and Curtis Jones (83) gave Lee Carsley’s drastically altered team a 3-0 victory, capping an outstanding triumph for the Three Lions in Athens.
Brazil 1-1 Venezuela
With a 1-1 tie against Venezuela, Brazil’s faltering World Cup qualification campaign continues.
Both Ederson and Savinho made their Seleção debuts.
Throughout the first period, Savinho was vivacious and energetic, and he nearly claimed an assist when Vinicius Jr.’s shot struck the post.
Ederson was forced to make two important saves before Barcelona’s Raphinha curled a superb free-kick home just before the break at the Estadio Monumental de Maturin.
However, the home crowd went crazy as second-half substitute Segovia hammered the ball past Ederson to tie the score within seconds of the restart.
After Vinicius Jr. won a penalty on minute sixty-two, Brazil had a great opportunity to take the lead again, but Rafael Enrique Romo Pérez stopped a tame effort to keep the score tied.
As the game went back and forth, Ederson produced another excellent save against Bello.
When Luiz Henrique took Savinho’s place at minute 68, his evening came to an end.
Alexander González was sent off for Venezuela at minute 89 of a tense match.
For the first time in ten CONMEBOL World Cup qualifying tries, Venezuela averted loss against the five-time world champions at home as Brazil failed to capitalize on their man advantage in the remaining minutes.
Third place in the table is still held by Brazil.
