Jude Bellingham told Morgan Rogers how proud he was to play his first game for England. After Anthony Gordon was taken off in the second half of England’s 3-0 Nations League win over Greece, the 22-year-old playmaker came on.
As soon as Lee Carsley’s team came on at the Athens Olympic Stadium on Thursday night, they went into fifth gear and scored two goals in a row. Following the game, Rogers shared a happy Instagram post about the win, which got almost 50,000 likes.
“When a dream comes true.” “A proud moment for my family and me!!!” the Aston Villa star wrote. A lot of people, including Bellingham, Cole Palmer, Ollie Watkins, and others, wrote nice things about Rogers’s start for his country.
“Deserved my brother [three white heart emojis],” the Real Madrid star wrote. He was the one who led England to win. The star player for Chelsea said, “Congrats my boy [black heart emoji]” at the same time.
Rogers got a nice message from Bellingham on his Instagram story, along with two pictures: one from when they were both young England players and the other after England’s game against Greece. The former defender for Birmingham City wrote on his post, “Congrats brother [white heart emoji]!” You’ve come a long way [emoji for crying with laughter].”
The midfielder for Aston Villa replied to the “before and after” post with “From the start [two red heart emojis].” Carsley told reporters after the game that he was glad to give Rogers, Curtis Jones, and Lewis Hall a chance to play on the world stage.
“It’s just important that the players play to their strengths,” said the temporary England manager. In the new year, Thomas Tuchel will take over as permanent manager. “We have a lot of great players; we focused on the ones who were here instead of the ones who weren’t.”
“We talked about this yesterday, about giving players chances, and we’ve seen that tonight.” Personally, I thought Curtis played exceptionally well today, even though he didn’t score a goal. It was a great game, and I’m very proud of him.
“The lack of experience in the team was talked about last night, but these players play at a really high level every week in the Premier League.” Lewis truly shows what a great player he is by being able to step up in that kind of environment and perform so well.
Carsley said, “Same with Morgan Rogers, he’s been really good at Villa. He should have made his senior debut earlier.” Perhaps he could have joined the senior team sooner, but we felt it was important to take our time with him since we hope he’ll be here for a while.
