Andre Onana, according to Jamie Redknapp, produced the “save of the season” in Manchester United’s Premier League matchup with Ipswich Town.
Marcus Rashford gave the visitors the lead in less than two minutes at Portman Road on Sunday afternoon, kicking off the Ruben Amorim era in spectacular fashion.
Rashford, who was playing up front, turned home Amad Diallo’s cross after he made a spectacular run down the right wing just as the game had calmed down.
Despite having an early lead, Manchester United spent the majority of the first half in second place and gave up a deflected goal from Omari Hutchinson shortly before halftime.
The hosts appeared to be on their way to scoring just before Ipswich equalized, but Onana made an incredible stop to keep them out.
Liam Delap was in control of the goal, but Onana palmed away his strong drive.
“Andre Onana made a world-class save,” former Premier League goalie Mark Schwarzer stated on BBC Radio 5 Live.
“I don’t know if it strikes him in the arm or the head.” Not much goes wrong for Liam Delap; he attempts to hoist it quickly in the direction of the nearby post area, but Onana flies out to stop it.
During the half, former England player Redknapp gave Onana a lot of credit for his save, while incoming Manchester United manager Amorim clapped.
“That’s the save of the season,” Redknapp stated on Sky Sports. That save is unthinkable.
Yes, he should have scored, but he made a fantastic save by keeping his massive right paw out.
“It’s unreal.” Delap believes he has scored, but Onana is so strong that it’s an incredible stop. However, he ought to score.
After joining Manchester United for £47.2 million from Ajax in the summer of 2023, Onana had a difficult start to his career, but he has been among the team’s best players this year.
Erik ten Hag was fired prior to the international break because of United’s poor performance, which has persisted.
