‘Arguably the finest, outstanding’ – National press goes crazy over 8/10 Arsenal player after win v Sporting

At Estadio Jose Alvalade, Arsenal shocked Sporting Lisbon 5-0 to get back to winning ways in the Champions League.

With seven minutes remaining, the Gunners were up after controlling the game from the beginning.

After twenty-two minutes, Kai Havertz added a close-range goal to increase Arsenal’s lead after Gabriel Martinelli had tapped in the first goal.

Gabriel Magalhaes scored another goal just before halftime, giving the Premier League powerhouses a 3-0 lead at the half.

Early in the second half, Sporting equalized, but Bukayo Saka’s conversion of his own penalty kick gave the visitors a significant advantage again.

The North Londoners finished with a fantastic victory thanks to a late fifth goal from Leandro Trossard.

Mikel Arteta’s men were at their destructive best on Tuesday night, but Martin Odegaard looked to be the most impressive of all.

The national press gave the Norwegian a great deal of acclaim, which was well-earned. The Daily Mail called him ‘outstanding’, saying he is arguably ‘the finest midfielder’ in Europe.

He received an 8 out of 10 from the English newspaper for creating a “top display.”

Their verdict read: “Kept on looking for killer passes in the final third and was a big part of why Arsenal were three up by the break. Another outstanding performance that also earned the Gunners a penalty.

Odegaard completed 56 of his 65 passes (86% accuracy) and had 82 touches during the game.

He won four of his eight ground duels and registered two key passes, two tackles and an interception.

This season, the Norway international has been a key member of Arsenal’s squad. The team massively struggled when he remained sidelined through injury for the last two months.

However, the Gunners have got their mojo back with Odegaard returning to the side.
