The Golden Boy Award is given every year to the young player who has stood out from the others. It’s kind of like the Ballon d’Or for young players in the top teams.

In its 20-year past, the award has been given to players like Wayne Rooney, Lionel Messi, and Kylian Mbappe. Today, England superstar Jude Bellingham holds the title.

There have been three winners from England, with Raheem Sterling being the other, in 2014. This season, there were a lot more nominees than ever before, with four more players in the running.

Lamine Yamal has become the youngest ever player to win the prestigious Golden Boy award

This season, there was a lot of competition. Warren Zaire-Emery, Alejandro Garnacho, Savio, Arda Guler, Kobbie Mainoo, Rico Lewis, and others were all trying to win.

But Yamal, the 17-year-old who helped Spain win the European Championship last summer, was thought to be the best of them all.

At 17 years, 4 months, and 14 days, he is the youngest person ever to win the coveted award. Gavi, who played for both Barcelona and Spain, was the previous winner.

During that Euros season, Yamal scored one goal—a huge one against France—and set up four others.

Yamal was a crucial part of Luis De La Fuente's European Championship-winning team this summer

Spain beat almost every team they played because he and Nico Williams attacked from two different angles. In the end, they beat England in the final to win the game for a record fourth time.

This season, he continued his meteoric rise at a very fast rate, scoring six more goals and setting up eight more in 16 games across all categories, which are truly electrifying numbers given his age.

In fact, his five goals and seven assists in LaLiga have already tied his totals from last season. Hansi Flick’s team is currently in first place in Spain’s top league, four points ahead of Real Madrid with a game in hand.

Yamal’s lightning-fast speed and skill with the ball have made defenders lost in 2024, making him not only one of the best young players in the world but also one of the best wingers in the world.

Even though he just turned 17 in July, Yamal played 50 times for Barcelona.

The award won’t be given to him publicly until a ceremony in December. Vicky Lopez, another starlet from Barcelona, will receive the Golden Girl award.

The full list of people who were named for 2024 is as follows: Lewis, Savio, Guler, Savio, Oscar Gloukh, Joao Neves, Leny Yoro, Samu Omorodion, Desire Doue, Aleksandar Pavlovic, Jorrel Hato, Kenan Yildiz, Cristhian Mosquera, and Mathys Tel.
