Before making his Old Trafford debut, RUBEN AMORIM was seen jokingly slapping Manchester United teammates during an odd training session.
Although many pleaded with the new manager to be “forgiving” of Luke Shaw after his much anticipated comeback from injury over the weekend, United supporters were thrilled to see some happiness return to Carrington.
On Wednesday, Ruben Amorim was seen making jokes with his players.
The carnage has been praised by fans as a sign of teamwork.
“I just want to spend time with my players,” Amorim said to Sky Sports on Sunday following a disappointing 1-1 stalemate at Ipswich.
Given that Harry Maguire and Lisandro Martinez resumed their training, it is evident that the Portuguese strategist is settling into his new position at United.
On Wednesday, in the bitter cold, Amorim and his coaching staff waited for his first team squad to arrive on the training fields.
After grinning as they passed past the gates, the players formed a tunnel to make space for their teammates to run through.
Before Amorim turned to shove Kobbie Mainoo back, the gang was observed joking and laughing.
Then, as Martinez was running for cover, the former Sporting manager enthusiastically launched at him.
Before Amorim affectionately urged him to join Martinez at the head of the line, a beaming Shaw seemed to jest with his new boss.
As a kind of initiation to welcome them back into the group, it appears that Amorim was having his long-term injured players run through it.
Amorim presses Luke Shaw
As their teammates in line gave them playful slaps, Martinez, Shaw, Maguire, and several other players started to dash through the artificial tunnel.
Shaw replaced Jonny Evans at left center-back on minute 59, playing his first United minutes since February against Ipswich.
Maguire has been out since leaving Villa Park in a plastic boot when Erik ten Hag was still in command, and Martinez was knocked during Ruud van Nistelrooy’s penultimate game as manager.
However, ahead of United’s Europa League match against Bodo/Glimt on Thursday, supporters quickly saw how close the group has gotten.
“Needs to be careful with Luke Shaw; those shoves could put him out for the rest of the season,” one person wrote.
“I’m sure he’s going to strengthen the bonds among the squad here,” a second person remarked.
“Amorim’s more connected with the players due to his younger age,” another person remarked.
“Stop pushing Shaw, he’s going to get hurt!” was written by a fourth.
“This club needs more chemistry, and he is trying to build it,” a fifth person said.
“It’s heartwarming to watch,” another person commented.
On Thursday, United will welcome 12% of the town’s total population.
The visiting squad, which lost twice to Arsenal in 2022, anticipates 6,500 people for the pivotal game.
That indicates that one in eight of the town’s 53,000 residents will attend the game.
Maguire isn’t expected to be well enough to play right away after a long hiatus, but Martinez might play.
“Licha is ready,” Amorim declared. He continued to play for a considerable amount of time, so I believe he is ready.
“With Harry, things are different. We need both of them, but they are in different circumstances.
“Harry will soon be on the field as well; they are both training.”
