It looks like Luis Suarez and Lionel Messi will play together for at least another year.
The team said Wednesday that Suarez and Inter Miami have agreed to extend his deal for one more year, which will cover the next season.
The cash details weren’t given out. In Suarez’s first season with Inter Miami, he scored 20 goals, tied with Messi for the team lead, in Major League Soccer regular season play and a team-high 25 goals in all tournaments. He earned $1.5 million that year.
It made Suarez very happy and excited to play for another year and enjoy being here with the fans, who are like family to us. The team shared these words with the public. “We feel very, very connected with them, and hopefully, next year, we can bring them even more joy.”
These were the most points (74) and wins (.765) ever scored by Inter Miami in an MLS regular season. The team went 22-4-8 and won the Supporters Shield. The team lost to Atlanta United in a best-of-three match in the first round of the playoffs and didn’t make it past that.
This new deal for Suarez, who will be 38 years old in January, keeps the core of Inter Miami’s stars who have ties to Barcelona together. Messi, Suarez, Sergio Busquets, and Jordi Alba are all players at Inter Miami. This group has played together with the powerful Spanish club in the past. And the new boss of Inter Miami, Javier Mascherano, played with those four at Barcelona. His hiring was official on Tuesday.
“In 2024, Luis brought to Inter Miami everything that makes him one of the best strikers of all time,” said Raul Sanllehi, head of football operations for Inter Miami. “He played at a very high level for us, and we hope that comes back next season.” Luis not only scored the most goals for us this season, but he also led the group. We can’t say enough good things about him.
Uruguay has had Suarez on their team for the last four World Cups. He has played for many teams, including Liverpool and Atletico Madrid. He has won many awards, including Dutch Player of the Year, FIFA Club World Cup Golden Ball, Premier League Player of the Season, and World Cup All-Star Team.
