In Birmingham, a unique tribute has been created to honor Jude Bellingham’s last-minute goal against Slovakia at the Euros—a statue made entirely from food.
In the 90+5 minute, Bellingham scored a miraculous equalizer that saved England’s Euro campaign. Had the match gone one more minute without a goal, Gareth Southgate’s team would have been eliminated. Thanks to Harry Kane’s efforts in extra time, the Three Lions secured victory and advanced to the next stage. Although England ultimately lost to Spain in the final, their campaign was still regarded as a success, establishing them as the second-strongest national team in Europe.
At just 21 years old, Jude Bellingham is becoming a football icon for England and has already achieved legendary status in his hometown of Birmingham, where he first showcased his talent during his time with Birmingham City.
Inspired by a OnePoll survey highlighting people’s happiest moments of 2024, Pret-A-Manger, a local food chain, created the statue. The survey revealed that a quarter of respondents associated joy with food, with two of the top three memorable events linked to the Euros: England reaching the final and Bellingham’s bicycle-kick goal. Using this insight, Pret-A-Manger crafted a food-based statue of Bellingham scoring against Slovakia, made from their festive menu items, including mince pies and gingerbread.
