Manchester United closed the gap to the Champions League spots to four points with a convincing 4-0 victory over Everton at Old Trafford on Sunday.
The Red Devils started slowly, with the Toffees looking the better side for the first 30 minutes but unable to score. United broke the deadlock in the 34th minute when Marcus Rashford’s shot took a significant deflection off Jarrad Branthwaite. Joshua Zirkzee then doubled the lead before halftime, with Rashford and Zirkzee adding more goals to secure the emphatic win.
Amad Diallo stood out as the key performer, while Lisandro Martinez also had an impressive game from his new left center-back position. Martinez showcased his distribution skills and made several crucial clearances, recording 103 touches and completing 89 out of 93 passes with a 96 percent accuracy. He also contributed five clearances and four recoveries.
However, despite his strong performance, the £42 million-rated star will miss the upcoming match against Arsenal due to a yellow card he received in the second half against Everton, marking his fifth booking of the season and resulting in a one-match suspension.
His absence is likely to allow Luke Shaw more playing time, as he has been training as a left center-back since returning from injury. United will also be without Kobbie Mainoo, who has accumulated five yellow cards.
Manuel Ugarte could partner Casemiro in midfield against Arsenal. If coach Amorim chooses to start Mason Mount or Alejandro Garnacho in attack, Bruno Fernandes may take Casemiro’s spot in the lineup.
