Crystal Palace have no plans to sell Adam Wharton in January amid increasing interest in the England midfielder. Manchester City is among the Premier League clubs closely monitoring Wharton’s situation as the winter transfer window approaches.
The 20-year-old has had a challenging season due to a groin injury that required surgery, sidelining him until at least the clash against Brighton on December 15. Despite this, he is attracting attention from top English clubs eager to test Palace’s resolve to keep him.
However, Palace is determined to retain Wharton at Selhurst Park until at least the summer. It remains uncertain whether an offer significantly exceeding the club’s valuation would alter their position, but they are focused on holding onto their key players as they aim to move away from relegation trouble.
Even if Wharton stays in January, Palace anticipates a struggle to keep him next season, given the interest from several top clubs. The Eagles plan to be active in the January transfer window, prioritizing the addition of a left-sided defender and an attacking midfielder.
While funds may be limited, a potential cash injection could occur if co-owner John Textor finalizes the sale of his 45 percent stake in the club. The investment group Sportsbank, advised by football financier Keith Harris, is looking to complete a deal for Textor’s shares and is prepared to invest in the club to support January’s transfer ambitions.
