Kai Havertz described his transfer from Chelsea to Arsenal as “the best decision” of his career in a recent interview.
The Gunners forward joined at the beginning of the 2023-24 season as Mikel Arteta aimed to enhance their attack for another title-chasing effort.
Initially, Havertz took time to adjust at the Emirates, possibly weighed down by his £65 million transfer fee and the challenges he faced at Stamford Bridge, where multiple coaches struggled to find his ideal role.
However, after scoring his first goal in October—a penalty against Bournemouth—Havertz has thrived in north London, becoming a regular starter under Arteta, netting 23 goals and assisting eight during his time in red.
Although some Chelsea fans were upset when he shushed the Stamford Bridge crowd after a disallowed goal last month, Havertz emphasized the importance of his move from west London.
“For me, it’s the best thing I could have done,” he told Sky Sports. “I’m very grateful for the support I received during my time there.”
He added that he’s just getting started and hopes to keep performing well and winning titles.
Arsenal recently secured a crucial 2-0 victory over Manchester United, maintaining their position seven points behind league leaders Liverpool.
Currently third—trailing Chelsea on goal difference—Arteta’s squad remains in contention for their third Premier League title in as many seasons.
Still, Havertz urged caution regarding expectations, noting, “We’re still in the first part of the season, and anything can happen.”
He pointed out that the Premier League gets tougher each year, acknowledging Liverpool’s impressive form. “They’ve reached a top level and continue to show it week after week,” he said. “But there are many games left, and we will be ready for the challenge.”
A key factor for Arsenal’s prospects is the return of injured captain Martin Odegaard. The Norwegian midfielder was back in the starting lineup for the Champions League match against Sporting Lisbon after the international break, and Havertz praised him for always providing a spark on the field.
“He is simply magical,” Havertz remarked. “He brings calmness and confidence, and he is capable of changing games even in tough situations. He never shies away and is vital for us.”
Following mid-week Premier League action, Arsenal will quickly prepare to face fellow London side Fulham at Craven Cottage on Sunday.
