At the Emirates Stadium on December 4th, both teams started cautiously. In the first half, Arsenal had several attempts on goal but none were on target, while Manchester United’s first shot came only in the 43rd minute. With five attempts all off target, this was the least eventful first half in the Premier League since the start of the season.
The difference came in the second half, when Arsenal scored two goals from corners, courtesy of Jurrien Timber and William Saliba.
Manchester United’s best chance also came from a set-piece, when Bruno Fernandes took a free kick that Matthijs de Ligt headed towards the far corner, but was denied by goalkeeper David Raya, who made a stunning save. This was the first time Manchester United conceded two goals from corners in a Premier League match since their game against Chelsea in January 2014, where both goals were scored by Samuel Eto’o.
