Kylian Mbappé was forced to leave the pitch with an injury just 35 minutes into Real Madrid’s Champions League match against Atalanta on Tuesday night.
The forward had made a strong start, scoring in the 10th minute, but his game ended prematurely in the 36th minute after he clutched his thigh. He was substituted shortly after, and according to The Athletic, Mbappé will undergo a scan to assess the extent of the injury.
Manager Carlo Ancelotti is already dealing with a depleted squad, missing key players such as David Alaba, Dani Carvajal, Éder Militão, and Eduardo Camavinga. After Mbappé’s departure, Atalanta equalized through Charles De Ketelaere just before halftime, adding to Ancelotti’s concerns.
Despite the setback, Real Madrid managed to secure a 3-2 victory, with Jude Bellingham and Vinícius Jr. scoring second-half goals. Atalanta responded in the 65th minute through Ademola Lookman, setting up a tense finish, but Madrid held on to secure three crucial points.
Mbappé, who has seen a significant improvement in form recently, had reportedly held talks with key Real Madrid players after a 2-1 loss to Athletic Bilbao, acknowledging his early-season shortcomings and vowing to improve. His comments were well received by the club, as they were eager for him to take on a leadership role in the team.
The French forward has now scored 12 goals in 22 appearances for Real Madrid in his debut season, including his goal against Atalanta. He also recently discussed his departure from PSG, reflecting on the challenges he faced during his time at the club, the obsession with winning the Champions League, and his parting words with the Emir of Qatar.
