Pep Guardiola acknowledged that Manchester City is fighting to avoid an early Champions League elimination following another tough loss on Wednesday night.
Juventus defeated the 2023 Treble winners with goals from Dusan Vlahovic and Weston McKennie, placing City in 22nd with two games remaining.
The top 24 teams progress to the knockout stage, and City will face Paris Saint-Germain next month, finishing the group at home against Club Brugge.
“It’s the goal,” Guardiola stated. “We need one or three points. We’ll go to Paris aiming for that, then the final match at home.”
“This situation stems from the Feyenoord game. We faced issues when it was 3-0 with 15 minutes left.”
“When we overcome this, we will remember this time and value our past and future achievements more.”
City has suffered seven losses in their last ten matches across all competitions, and Ilkay Gundogan noted the team’s fragile confidence before their match against Manchester United this weekend. “Confidence is crucial, and it’s a mental issue. One missed play can cause us to lose our rhythm,” Gundogan explained. “In key moments, we consistently make mistakes.”
“I feel we’re sometimes careless in duels, complicating situations and missing our timing.”
“During transitions, we allow counterattacks, forcing us to chase back. We’re not designed for that; we thrive on possession.”
Guardiola remarked, “I reflect on my actions in both good and bad times. The locker room remains steady. We must be resilient. What can we do? Feel sorry for ourselves? That’s life, it happens.”
