GOAL HUNTER: Arsenal must sign ‘world-class’ 25-year-old striker in January after ‘more cruel’ comments

Arsenal has had a disappointing start to the Premier League season, sitting six points behind leaders Liverpool, who have a game in hand.

With just 15 matches played, the Gunners are struggling to keep up and need a significant turnaround to have any chance of winning the league title.

While Arsenal has performed well in the Carabao Cup and Champions League, the pressing question is whether they can end their trophy drought.

The club hasn’t claimed any major silverware since the 2020 FA Cup. In our view, the board should show ambition by pursuing a new striker in the mid-season transfer window.

Arsenal legend Martin Keown recently stated that the Gunners need a player who can score more goals and be “more ruthless.” We believe Alexander Isak would be an ideal fit.

The Newcastle United striker is seen as the top forward target for next summer, but Arsenal should expedite their transfer plans for him.

Isak would be a significant upgrade over Kai Havertz in the attacking role. While Havertz has scored 10 goals in 22 games this season, he lacks the mobility that Isak offers.

Since returning from a broken toe in October, the Swedish striker has been in excellent form, scoring six goals and providing two assists in his last eight matches.

Additionally, Isak has excelled in link-up play from deeper positions, notably delivering five key passes against Liverpool this month at St. James’ Park.

Newcastle is in a strong position to retain Isak, with three-and-a-half years remaining on his contract.

However, Arsenal should test their resolve come January. The Magpies sit 12th in the standings and face a challenging path to Champions League qualification.

Eddie Howe’s side may need to make a significant sale to balance their finances, making it an opportune time for Arsenal to make a bold offer for Isak in the winter transfer window.

Described as “world-class” by manager Howe, Isak could demand over £100 million due to his long-term contract, but this is within Arsenal’s reach.

The Gunners made a major statement by signing Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang from Borussia Dortmund in January 2018. The club’s hierarchy must pursue a similar bold move now.
