The 31-year-old De Bruyne scribbled, “Congrats F1 champion,” on a City uniform that he presented to Verstappen.

The Dutch driver, 24, was obviously inspired by their conversation.

After starting the race far down in 15th place, Verstappen blasted through the field to capture the chequered flag in first place at Spa.

While De Bruyne has scored once and supplied three assists in four Premier League games this season, he is the clear favorite to win the championship for a second time in a row.
