Bringing talented young players up through the ranks and into the first squad is something Arsenal has a long history of doing.
Whether it’s with talented children they discover at other teams like Cesc Fàbregas or Gabriel Martinelli, or with up-and-coming talents from their school like Ethan Nwaneri, Emile Smith Rowe, or Bukayo Saka.
Developing the next generation of superstars rather than simply purchasing them has always been a fundamental tenet of the North Londoners’ methodology.
Not surprisingly, the club is associated with a very interesting adolescent in Brazil. There are some similarities between this child and Barcelona player Lamine Yamal.
Transfer news for Arsenal
According to a recent report from Caught Offside, William Gomes is a talented young player from São Paulo who has drawn interest from a number of teams, including Arsenal.
The report claims that scouts from Arsenal and Chelsea have already visited the 18-year-old to observe him play and have provided “positive feedback on what they’ve seen so far.”
The story doesn’t specify a potential cost, but late last month, Caught Offside revealed that the young player’s current contract included a large €120 million (£96 million) release clause for clubs outside of Brazil. It doesn’t seem realistic that any team would provide something like that.
All things considered, it may be difficult to sign Gomes in 2025, but his enormous potential makes it worthwhile, particularly given how much he resembles the outstanding Yamal.
The young Brazilian was described as a “dribbling monster” by U23 scout Antonio Mango, who also stated it was “frightening what he’s capable of.” The Barcelona great and the young Brazilian are equally skilled with the ball.
The young player’s amazing close control has been lauded by a number of talent scouts. One of them, Jacek Kulig, also lists his “dribbling” and “ball control” as two of his strongest traits.
But let’s say you need concrete evidence to demonstrate the similarities between the two teenagers.
According to FBref, the Aracaju-born prospect is in the top 11% for successful take-ons per 90 and the top 8% for progressive carries among attacking midfielders and wingers in the upcoming 14 events.
