Ruben Amorim has responded to Marcus Rashford’s omission from Manchester United’s Carabao Cup quarter-final against Tottenham for the second time. The Portuguese manager maintained that Rashford’s absence was unrelated to his previous interview, in which he indicated a desire for a “new challenge” after two decades with the club.
Amorim revealed his selection method, saying, “I chose players who I believe are prepared to handle the demands of playing a strong game.” He emphasized that his selections are based on the players’ readiness, not on specific circumstances.
When asked about Rashford’s attitude in training, Amorim stressed that the standards he demands are applicable to all players, not just the 27-year-old. “It’s always the same with every player, including Marcus. So, in the end, I had to make a decision and execute it,” he explained.
While Amorim stated a wish to keep Rashford, speculations say Manchester United could sell him for roughly £40 million.
In contrast, Alejandro Garnacho, who was earlier left out of the squad, has returned and impressed the management with his training efforts. Amorim commented, “He’s incredibly fast. “He is good one-on-one, and we need these kinds of abilities from Garnacho,” implying that the young forward may be a vital asset moving ahead.
