Mirror reports Arsenal is closely tracking Barcelona forward Dani Olmo’s contract situation as the January transfer window approaches.
The Spanish international joined Barcelona from RB Leipzig last summer for £52 million and has contributed seven goal involvements in less than 900 minutes this season. However, uncertainty surrounds his future at the club, as Barcelona has yet to register him with La Liga for beyond 2024 due to ongoing financial issues.
According to Mirror, a secret clause in Olmo’s contract could allow him to leave for free in January if not registered on time.
Potential Move
Despite injuries interrupting his campaign, Olmo has impressed for Barcelona, netting six goals and one assist in 15 appearances. Should he become available as a free agent, Arsenal may pursue the versatile 26-year-old.
Primarily an attacking midfielder, Olmo can also operate as a winger on either flank. This versatility could help Arsenal address injury challenges, such as Bukayo Saka’s recent hamstring issue or their inconsistent left-wing performances.
Olmo’s goal-scoring and playmaking abilities would be valuable assets for the Gunners. While Manchester City is also rumored to be interested, Arsenal could appeal to Olmo by offering a guaranteed starting role.
However, financial considerations loom large. Arsenal, under the PSR spending limits, would likely avoid matching his initial £52 million transfer fee, especially given Olmo’s fitness concerns. Over the past three seasons, he has missed nearly 20 games per campaign due to injuries, making a hefty investment risky for the Gunners.
