Arsenal predicted XI v Ipswich as £42m man returns and Gabriel Martinelli decision made

Arsenal are preparing to close the gap on Premier League leaders Liverpool as they welcome Ipswich Town to the Emirates Stadium on Friday night.

The Gunners head into the clash on a high after a strong week before Christmas, having secured a spot in the Carabao Cup semi-finals with a victory over Crystal Palace and following it up with a commanding league win over the same opponents.

Despite their momentum, Arsenal face a significant challenge with Bukayo Saka ruled out due to a hamstring injury. Manager Mikel Arteta confirmed the winger will miss “many weeks,” leaving a gap in the attack for the crucial matchup.

Adding to their injury concerns, Raheem Sterling will be absent due to a knee issue, while Ben White and Takehiro Tomiyasu remain sidelined with long-term injuries. However, there’s some relief as Oleksandr Zinchenko is expected to make his return after weeks out.

For Ipswich, currently sitting second from bottom but just two points away from safety, this game is crucial in their battle for survival. Arsenal, meanwhile, will aim to maintain their title charge and keep the pressure on Liverpool in the title race.

One change for Arsenal could come at the back, with Riccardo Calafiori likely to replace Myles Lewis-Skelly at left-back.

Although the Gunners academy graduate has done well, the £42million Italian should now be back to full match fitness.

David Raya is expected to start in goal, while Gabriel Magalhaes, William Saliba and Jurrien Timber are likely to complete the back four.

Another change for Arsenal could come in midfield, with Declan Rice likely to return to the starting XI amid some rejigging.

Kai Havertz, who started in midfield against Palace, could return to lead the line, while Gabriel Martinelli could switch to the right flank and Gabriel Jesus could move to the left.
