Alan Shearer has urged Manchester United to resolve Marcus Rashford’s uncertain future, emphasizing the importance of supporting manager Ruben Amorim amidst growing challenges.
Rashford, sidelined for United’s past four matches, remains in limbo after expressing his desire for a “new challenge.” His exclusion from the squad, including during United’s 2-1 derby victory over Manchester City, has fueled speculation about his departure. Amorim recently confirmed that the 27-year-old forward is no closer to rejoining the team.
Shearer stressed the urgency of finding a resolution for the club and Rashford alike. “They have to back Amorim,” the Betfair ambassador said. “He was brought in to address United’s struggles, and part of that process involves deciding who stays and who goes. If Rashford no longer wants to be there and the manager shares that view, then it’s best for both parties to sort this out sooner rather than later.”
Acknowledging the challenges of moving a player on a “huge contract,” Shearer highlighted the need for mutual agreement to prevent further strain.
Speaking on December 17, Rashford affirmed his desire for a fresh start: “I think I’m ready for a new challenge. When I leave, it’s with no hard feelings toward Manchester United. That’s just who I am.”
Amorim, when asked if Rashford had shown any changes since his exile, responded bluntly: “If he’s not here, you can make your mind up.”
As United prepares to navigate this stormy period, the pressure is on the club’s hierarchy to support Amorim’s decisions and ensure a harmonious transition.
