FOCUS ON HIM: Mikel Arteta has his eyes set on Real Sociedad’s Martin Zubimendi, with Arsenal joining two other Premier League clubs in the race for his signature!

Mikel Arteta has successfully transformed Arsenal since taking over in December 2019, not only reshaping the squad but also instilling a new mentality. Despite significant changes, Arteta has continued to refine his squad, even replacing players he initially brought in, such as Gabriel Jesus and Oleksandr Zinchenko, in favor of new signings like Kai Havertz and Riccardo Calafiori.

Arsenal is reportedly targeting Real Sociedad’s Martin Zubimendi as a potential addition to their midfield, alongside competitors Liverpool and Manchester City. Zubimendi, 25, has a €60 million release clause, which makes him an affordable option for Arsenal. His versatility in both central and defensive midfield could eventually replace Thomas Partey, who is under consideration for a new deal.

Comparing Zubimendi and Partey, the Ghanaian has been a solid performer for Arsenal but lags behind in several key metrics, including progressive passes, shot-creating actions, and key passes. Zubimendi, noted for his “world-class” ability, has a significant statistical advantage over Partey and is considered a younger, less injury-prone option for the future.

Given his quality, Zubimendi could be a more suitable long-term choice for Arteta’s system, though Arsenal may offer Partey a short-term contract to keep him through the upcoming season.
