Manchester United manager Ruben Amorim has identified his primary transfer target for January, as reported recently.
Due to the club’s Financial Fair Play (FFP) constraints, United will have limited funds available this month, according to the Portuguese manager. Any significant signings will likely depend on the sale of players, with Marcus Rashford being one of those rumored to leave the club.
Tuttomercatoweb reports that AC Milan plans to approach United with a loan offer for Rashford, willing to cover his reported £350,000-per-week salary. This potential move could enable Amorim to pursue a replacement, with David Ornstein of The Athletic indicating that he is considering a loan deal for Randal Kolo Muani from Paris Saint-Germain.
However, Kolo Muani is not United’s top priority for January; instead, Amorim is keen on signing left-back Nuno Mendes as his first acquisition at Old Trafford. Mendes made his professional debut under Amorim at Sporting Lisbon before transferring to PSG in the summer of 2022.
Despite having a contract with PSG until 2026, Mendes has yet to agree to a new deal, and PSG is reportedly optimistic about him staying. The 22-year-old has emerged as one of the most talented players in his position in Europe, capable of playing both left-back and left wing-back. However, United may be wary of his injury history, as Transfermarkt notes he has missed 58 games due to injuries since the 2022/23 season, with 44 of those attributed to a severe hamstring issue.
Adding to the intrigue, RMC Sport’s Fabrice Hawkins has reported that Mendes is “not indifferent” to a move to Old Trafford, which could create an opportunity for Amorim to make his move.
