The injured player is concentrating on returning to full fitness after causing a stir with a TikTok video.
ENGLAND footballer Luke Shaw has brushed off criticism for miming “your mum’s on benefits” in a TikTok trend, despite reportedly earning £150,000 a week while sidelined, according to a friend.
The 29-year-old faced backlash for appearing in the clip with his partner Anouska Santos’s close friend, Molly-Mae Hague, during a New Year’s Eve celebration, where friends enjoyed shots from a £200 bottle of tequila.
Fans reacted angrily to the video, expressing that it made them “sick in their mouth,” particularly given Shaw’s extended absence from play.
However, sources close to the Manchester United defender say he has developed a “thick skin” in response to online negativity and remains focused on regaining match fitness.
A friend commented: “Luke is accustomed to the daily backlash and often jokes with others about earning more while injured than when he’s playing.
“Although the TikTok was shot at a private gathering, it went viral, but Luke didn’t mind.
“To him, it was just light-hearted fun. He’s so used to the criticism that it doesn’t faze him.
“That night, everyone was in a party mood and had a fantastic time, enjoying Class Azul Reposado, a popular tequila among footballers right now.”
The TikTok features the trending track “Mugshot Freestyle (The Northern Boys Remix).”
