AC Milan is preparing to offload a forward to create space for Marcus Rashford in their squad.
Manchester United is eager to find a new destination for Rashford during the January transfer window after he faced exclusion under Ruben Amorim. Rashford has expressed his readiness for a fresh challenge and is actively exploring exit options this month.
Milan has emerged as a strong contender after the 27-year-old turned down opportunities in Saudi Arabia and Turkey. However, the financial aspect complicates the move, as Rashford earns £325,000 per week at United, with a contract running until June 2028.
The Italian club hopes to secure him on an initial loan until the season’s end but is reluctant to cover even half of his wages, given that their highest earner, Alvaro Morata, makes only £150,000. Despite this, Milan continues to negotiate with United and is pursuing other transfer activities this January that could facilitate Rashford’s arrival.
Reports from Italy indicate that Milan forward Noah Okafor is set to fly to Germany on Friday to join RB Leipzig on an initial loan deal, potentially becoming permanent for around €25 million (£21 million) in the summer. The Swiss forward, who joined Milan from RB Salzburg for €15.5 million (£13 million) last summer, has been deemed surplus to requirements.
Okafor’s departure will not only open up a spot in the lineup but also reduce the wage burden, making room for Rashford. His brother and representative, Dane, has been in Italy this week working on the potential deal. United is open to letting him go, especially after co-owner Sir Jim Ratcliffe stated that every player has a price.
“In December, I mentioned that I’m ready for a new challenge and the next steps,” Rashford said. “When I leave, it will be with ‘no hard feelings.’ I won’t have any negative comments about Manchester United. That’s just who I am.
“If a situation is already difficult, I won’t make it worse. I’ve seen how other players have departed in the past, and I want to avoid that. When I do leave, I’ll make a statement, and it will come from me.”
