Rúben Amorim: How a €50M Man Utd Star’s PSG Journey Sparked Remarkable Growth

Manchester United’s summer acquisition, Manuel Ugarte, has faced some early hurdles in the 2024-25 season. Signed from Paris Saint-Germain for a reported €50 million, plus an additional €10 million in potential add-ons and a 10 percent sell-on clause, Ugarte arrived at Old Trafford under manager Erik ten Hag. However, the responsibility of unlocking his full potential now rests with the club’s new head coach, Rúben Amorim.

Manuel Ugarte

Having previously worked with Ugarte at Sporting CP from 2021 to 2023, Amorim believes that Ugarte’s experience in Paris has ultimately been advantageous. Ahead of the Red Devils’ FA Cup match against Arsenal on Sunday, Amorim noted that Ugarte has evolved since their time together, stating, “I think he is better with the ball, playing between the lines. He remains an aggressive player, but his training with PSG has helped him improve in various ways. When you train with different players, you gain confidence and encounter new challenges that foster growth.”

Additionally, Samuel Luckhurst of the Manchester Evening News recently reported that former PSG striker Edinson Cavani has been instrumental in preparing Ugarte for life at Manchester United. The two players, who shared a room during international duty with Uruguay, frequently discussed what to expect at the club.
