Alejandro Garnacho made a heartfelt visit to a seven-year-old Manchester United fan currently battling cancer.
In May 2023, Anderson Pollard was diagnosed with a rare form of non-Hodgkin’s lymphoma. Manchester United facilitated a meeting between the Argentine star and Pollard at their training facility in Carrington.
Garnacho was visibly emotional as he shared a moment with the newborn son he and his partner, Eva Garcia, had just welcomed into the world.
Carrington was contacted and informed that MUTV wanted to discuss his experience watching the recent 2-2 draw with Tottenham at Old Trafford. His family hails from Redditch, Worcestershire.
Little did Anderson know that he was about to meet the man he had long considered his hero.
Garnacho praised Anderson as “heroic” and “brave” during their time together, presenting him with a small “bravery award.” He was joined by his parents, Debbie Bath and Sam.
Since his diagnosis eight months ago, Anderson has been undergoing chemotherapy. Initially, doctors suspected he was experiencing constipation due to his painful and irregular bowel movements.
After a series of tests, multiple tumors were discovered in Anderson’s stomach.
“We were completely shocked to learn it was cancer,” said his father, Sam Pollard.
“You never think it will happen to you; it feels like something out of a movie. It was terrifying. We were scared, but we really didn’t understand what it all meant.”
He was initially diagnosed with constipation during a routine visit to an allergy clinic.” As Anderson’s condition deteriorated, we reached out to 111 for assistance. The next morning, we took him to the doctor, who quickly referred him to the hospital.
