STAR FALL: Fans slam David Raya for comical penalty shootout antics as Arsenal goalkeeper dived the wrong way for EVERY Man United spot kick in FA Cup third round defeat

Fans heavily criticized David Raya online following his poor showing for Arsenal during their penalty shootout loss to Manchester United.

Arsenal, reduced to a 1-1 draw after 120 minutes against a 10-man United side, were defeated 5-3 on penalties. Raya, who failed to guess correctly for any of United’s spot kicks, faced the most backlash for his bizarre attempt to save Leny Yoro’s penalty.

As Yoro stepped up, Raya shuffled toward the right, hopped in place, and then fully committed to diving the wrong way, leaving United’s center-back to easily tuck the ball into the bottom left corner.

Criticism poured in on X, with one user saying, “This is up there with the worst goalkeeping I’ve ever seen.” Another commented, “Nearly every one of [Raya’s] attempted saves looked like something out of a comic book. Awful.”

Sunday’s first half suffered from a lack of quality from both sides, with Gabriel Martinelli coming closest before his effort was ruled out for offside.

The game erupted into life after the interval with United as Bruno Fernandes put the visitors into the lead before United’s momentum was halted when Diogo Dalot was sent off for a second booking. Arsenal then promptly found an equaliser through a deflected volley from Gabriel.

The Gunners then had a golden opportunity to take the lead after being awarded a penalty but Altay Bayindir produced a fine stop to deny Martin Odegaard from 12 yards.

After a tense extra 30 minutes the game was decided by spot kicks, with a miss from Kai Havertz sending Ruben Amorim’s side through.

United will continue their FA Cup defence against Leicester, who are managed by club legend Ruud van Nistelrooy.
