Due to the club’s Financial Fair Play (FFP) limitations, Amorim has recognized that Manchester United will have restricted funds for new signings. Consequently, any significant acquisitions will hinge on the club’s ability to offload players.

One prominent player rumored to be on the move is Marcus Rashford. According to Tuttomercatoweb, AC Milan is readying a loan proposal for the United forward, which would include covering his reported £350,000-per-week salary.

This potential move could enable Amorim to secure a replacement, with reports from The Athletic’s David Ornstein indicating that he is poised to initiate a loan offer for Randal Kolo Muani from Paris Saint-Germain.

However, Kolo Muani is not considered United’s primary target for January—one of his PSG teammates is.

According to The Telegraph, Amorim aims to make left-back Nuno Mendes his first signing as manager at Old Trafford. Mendes debuted professionally under Amorim at Sporting Lisbon before moving to PSG in the summer of 2022.

His current contract at Parc des Princes extends until 2026, but he has yet to finalize terms on a new deal. The Telegraph reports that PSG is “hopeful” he will choose to stay with the club.

The 22-year-old versatile player can operate as both a left-back and left wing-back, establishing himself as one of the most promising talents in his position in European football. However, United may have concerns about his injury history.

According to Transfermarkt, the Portugal international has been sidelined for an astounding 58 matches due to injuries since the start of the 2022/23 season, with 44 of those games lost to a significant hamstring injury.

These reports about Mendes come in light of claims from RMC Sport’s Fabrice Hawkins, who noted that Mendes is “not indifferent” to a potential move to Old Trafford, possibly paving the way for Amorim to make a move.
