Ruben Amorim expressed his dissatisfaction with Manchester United’s performance against Southampton.
Following a hard-fought victory, Amorim identified four players who fell short of his expectations. Amad Diallo’s remarkable hat-trick in the final moments saved United from embarrassment, securing a dramatic win.
Southampton had taken an unexpected lead just before halftime when Manuel Ugarte scored an own goal, but Amad’s brilliance masked what was otherwise another disappointing outing for United.
In a post-match interview with TNT Sports, Amorim candidly addressed the team’s shortcomings when asked by Paul Scholes.
“It was a challenging match, a tale of two halves,” he remarked. “Southampton did well to exploit spaces between the lines, particularly with [Kamaldeen Sulemana], who we struggled to contain. Once they lost their physical edge, we found opportunities. The team is fatigued, and we have much to improve. It’s a win, which is positive. Let’s keep going.”
Reflecting on Amad’s performance, the 39-year-old coach noted, “Even in the first half, whenever Amad had the ball, he pushed it forward, drawing the opposition into their final third. That’s crucial. We didn’t play well, but for now, winning is what matters most.”
With this victory, United moved up three spots in the Premier League, now sitting in 12th place after winning just seven of their 21 matches. They remain 13 points behind the top four, making European qualification seem like a distant hope.
