Manchester United manager Ruben Amorim has confirmed that the team will depend on Amad Diallo once more in their upcoming match against Brighton on Sunday, following his late-game heroics in the comeback win over Southampton.
Amad scored a remarkable 12-minute hat-trick, rescuing United from what could have been a fourth consecutive home defeat at Old Trafford on Thursday against the struggling Southampton.
United found themselves in jeopardy after Manuel Ugarte’s first-half own goal, but Amad stepped up just in time to secure the victory.
In his post-match press conference, Amorim was asked if he had spoken to Amad after his impressive performance. He responded, “I didn’t say anything. I will tell him tomorrow to rest, eat well, and prepare for Sunday—we need him again.”
“He did a fantastic job; it’s a great moment for a young player to score a hat-trick for a club like this, but he needs to focus on the next match—this is already behind us.”
“The key is to win, and he was instrumental in that. He’s having a strong season. We must be cautious with young talents. He did well today, but there’s still room for improvement. Congratulations to him and the whole team; they should enjoy tonight, but tomorrow we will focus on recovery and preparation for the next game.”
Regarding the team’s performance, Amorim stated, “You always have to believe. I have to believe, but with the chance Antony missed, you start to feel… let’s try again.”
“It was a challenging night for our fans, especially with the recent losses to Newcastle, Bournemouth, and Nottingham Forest at home. However, we managed to turn things around. Overall, while we didn’t play our best, we created enough opportunities to deserve the win, though we still need to improve significantly.”
Co-owner Sir Jim Ratcliffe was in attendance at Old Trafford and likely didn’t enjoy much of what he witnessed throughout the game.
“I spent five minutes discussing various aspects of the match with him. It wasn’t our best performance, but the final result helped ease the conversation.”
“Winning was crucial today. I understand the fans want to see better football, and I want that too, but we need time. To buy time, we must win matches, and we accomplished that today.”
