Luis Suarez was spotted in public for the first time after completing his six-week quarantine. The Barcelona striker, who is reportedly on the club’s “for sale” list, appeared unfazed by the rumors while enjoying a stroll with his family near their home in Barcelona.
At 33, Suarez is under contract with Barcelona until 2021; however, it seems that all players at the club, except Lionel Messi and goalkeeper Marc-Andre ter Stegen, are available for transfer. During his outing, Suarez, accompanied by his wife, Sofia, and two of their children—six-year-old Benjamin and one-year-old Lautaro—opted not to wear a mask.
Suarez has been recovering from knee surgery he underwent in January, having dealt with pain for months prior to the procedure. He had been managing to play through the discomfort with the assistance of injections. His last appearance for the club was during the 3-2 defeat to Atletico Madrid in the Spanish Super Cup on January 9, leading to speculation that it could have been his final match in a Barcelona jersey.
Former Uruguay international Sebastian Abreu mentioned that he could have signed Suarez if he had taken the managerial position at Nacional, Suarez’s first club. Nacional was without a manager late last year after Alvaro Gutierrez resigned, and Abreu, who had multiple stints as a player there, believed he was a strong candidate for the job.
