Lionel Messi was seen consoling a crying woman in touching moments after Argentina won the World Cup.
The mystery hugger has been revealed to be Antonia Farias, a well-known Argentinean chef, according to Argentine reports.
The Argentinean newspaper Clarin reported that Messi, 35, was celebrating with Antonia, a veteran of the national squad.
Video emerged of him firmly embracing the sobbing Antonia following Sunday’s penalty shootout triumph over France.
She wearing an Argentina shirt, rushed over to the Argentina captain on the pitch, and wrapped her arms around his back.
Messi’s face brightened when he recognized the person in front of him.
The 42-year-old has reportedly worked as an Argentina chef for the past ten years.
She cooks for the players throughout every international trip the squad takes.
Antonia was present at last year’s Copa America triumph, the World Cup victory in Qatar, and the summer Finalissima victory over Italy at Wembley.
At the 2018 World Cup in Russia, which also happened to be Messi’s birthday, Antonia was also given a cake for her birthday.
The team apparently loves Antonia for her positive attitude in addition to her culinary skills.
It was therefore not surprising that Messi appeared so content when Antonia embraced him, in contrast to his encounter with Salt Bae.
The well-known chef somehow made it onto the field to pester Messi for a selfie following the Lusail Stadium final.
Messi was joined on the field by his wife, Antonela Roccuzzo, and their three sons, Thiago, 10, Mateo, 7, and Ciro, 4.
As the family celebrated, they all kissed the World Cup trophy together.
