DECLAN RICE was showered with beer cups and bottles as Arsenal defeated Dinamo Zagreb 3-0 in the Champions League.
Two minutes into the Croatian powerhouses’ Wednesday night visit to the Emirates, the England international lit the blue touch paper.
Additionally, some of the traveling fans threw missiles at the midfielder twice in an attempt to vent their rage.
When Rice tried to take a corner in the tenth minute, bottles, cups, and what looked like a lighter were thrown. This was the first incident.
In the 27th minute, Yobs in the Zagreb end launched yet more missiles at Rice, one of which struck the midfield player.
On social media, football enthusiasts who were watching the game criticized the louts. One commenter wrote on X, “These Zagreb fans are actually crazy.”
Someone else mockingly remarked: “Classy from Zagreb fans.”
“Absolutely nasty from Zagreb fans throwing stuff at Declan,” another person commented.
“What is the point of stewards?” one said.
.
.
“They’re literally just stood watching Rice get peppered by the Zagreb fans when he goes over to take a corner.”
“Well, I must say, that’s definitely a new and interesting tactic for stopping Arsenal corners,” another person commented.
“Kudos to the Zagreb fans for their creativity and stupidity.”
A small percentage of Zagreb’s supporters’ behavior is probably going to put the Croatian champions in a difficult situation with Uefa.
Zagreb might now face disciplinary action from European football’s regulatory body, which would probably result in a penalty fee.
Kai Havertz and Martin Odegaard’s strikes in the second half gave the Gunners a 3-0 victory and virtually guaranteed them a spot in the round of sixteen.
