Ange Postecoglou, the manager of Tottenham Hotspur, was elected Manager of the Year at the London Football Awards, while Declan Rice was named Premier League Player of the Year 2024.
At a ceremony held at Camden’s Roundhouse, London’s best football players were honored. Guglielmo Vicario, Michael Olise of Crystal Palace, and Harry Redknapp all received trophies.
Rice, a midfielder for Arsenal and a 2022 Premier League Player of the Year, had an incredible season leading West Ham to the Europa Conference League title before earning a record-breaking £100 million transfer to north London.
Rice has been Mikel Arteta’s Gunners’ new fulcrum, scoring crucial goals in crucial games and serving as the impetus behind their title challenge.
Rice defeated competition from Spurs players Vicario and Pedro Porro, former teammate Jarrod Bowen, and current teammate William Saliba to win the LFA’s top men’s title for the second consecutive season. Martin Odegaard won the title in 2023.
Cole Palmer, a summer acquisition for Chelsea, followed in the footsteps of colleague and 2022 champion Conor Gallagher by winning the Men’s Young Player of the Year award.
Palmer, a former Manchester City academy product, has scored 14 goals and assisted on nine more in all competitions since relocating to the city, making him the clear star of an otherwise difficult season at Stamford Bridge.
In the dugout, Spurs manager Postecoglou defeated departing Chelsea manager Emma Hayes to win Manager of the Year in a fiercely contested field that also featured Richie Wellens of Leyton Orient, Mikel Arteta, and David Moyes.
With his audacious offensive style and ability to lead Spurs through an injury crisis to fifth place in the Premier League, “Big Ange” has quickly become a fan favorite since relocating from Glasgow to north London.
Vicario, a fellow Spurs summer newcomer, won Goalkeeper of the Year, sponsored by i, for his similarly revolutionary impact at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium. He led the league in a number of important metrics and restored stability to his team’s defense.
Lauren James, who won the 2023 Women’s Young Player of the Year award in the WSL, has advanced to Player of the Year, defeating fellow blues players Niamh Charles and Guro Reiten.
In addition to playing a key part in England’s World Cup success last summer, James has emerged as Chelsea’s crowning jewel, scoring 12 goals in just 13 league games this season. Still just 22, the former Manchester United forward seems set to vie for this title for years to come.
