Gabriel Martinelli is the most recent victim for Arsenal, who have suffered yet another serious injury blow.
In the 37th minute of Arsenal’s second-leg loss to Newcastle in the Carabao Cup semi-final at St. James’ Park, the 23-year-old was substituted out.
He hobbled down the tunnel after going to the ground while gripping his hamstring.
He was replaced by Ethan Nwaneri, one of the two attacking players on the bench.
However, the most recent setback adds to Mikel Arteta’s mounting injury worries.
In December, star player Bukayo Saka had to have surgery after suffering a hamstring injury.
It is anticipated that the England international will not make a comeback until spring.
Due to an ACL injury, forward Gabriel Jesus is also out for the season.
Last month during Arsenal’s FA Cup match against Manchester United, the Brazilian was stretchered off after falling awkwardly.
The Gunners will only have four senior offensive players if Martinelli is also sent to the medical room with a serious injury.
The most recent setback occurred just two days after the transfer window ended.
To the chagrin of supporters, Arsenal was unable to sign any players in January.
Even Arteta was “disappointed” that his superiors were unable to close a deal.
He continued: “We haven’t achieved it so we are disappointed in that sense but as well we are very aware that we only want to bring certain kinds of players and we have to be very disciplined with that and I think we will.”
Last week, the Gunners attempted to recruit Ollie Watkins, a striker for Aston Villa, but their bid was promptly turned down.
In addition to losing Martinelli, Arsenal also had to contend with a 2-0 setback and elimination from the Carabao Cup.
