Lionel Messi, the talisman for Inter Miami, was given a standing ovation when he was brought on during the game.

Lionel Messi scored a goal and provided an assist as Inter Miami defeated Honduran team CD Olimpia 5-0 during their pre-season North and South America tour. Luis Suarez’s incredible assist was converted by the 2022 World Cup winner to open the scoring in the first half. The two gave each other a warm embrace as they celebrated the goal.

After forty-four minutes, teenage Argentine player Federico Redondo made it two goals to one, and ninety seconds later, he added the third. Messi then cut back and sent it to defender Noah Allen, who scored it 3-0 before halftime after eluding the goalkeeper and two defenders.

Suarez nutmegged the goalie eight minutes into the second half to make it 4-0, and twenty-five minutes later Ryan Sailor gave Inter Miami the lead.

Standing ovation and selfie maniaIn addition to receiving a standing ovation for being substituted during the game, the Barcelona veteran was besieged by Olimpia players taking photographs after the final whistle. Although Messi has been a key member of the David Beckham-led team since his debut, they lost in the first round of the playoffs last season despite being first in the regular season.

Javier Mascherano, who was once teammates with Messi, Jordi Alba, Sergio Busquets, and Suarez, has also been hired as Inter Miami’s next head coach. “I’m not one to try and force things or prove something that doesn’t need to be proven,” he remarked when he was appointed. Ultimately, my relationship with Leo isn’t the only one; Luis, Jordi, and Busi are also involved. Our relationship will not change outside of the club since I dislike mixing things up.

“It’s a little odd to have him as a coach now, but we respect him for the role he has,” Suarez added. We’ve spoken; the key is realizing that he is now in charge of making decisions.
