Before Saturday’s derby with Atletico Madrid, Real Madrid paid a heartfelt homage to the club’s legend Marcelo after the Brazilian’s retirement.
Before the beginning whistle blew, his boys, Enzo and Liam, joined the illustrious left back at the crowded Santiago Bernabeu.
Jude Bellingham of England was also seen leading the standing ovation, while Luka Modric, a veteran of the team, gave the Brazilian a framed Galacticos jersey to photograph with.
Following 10 excellent seasons together with the Madrid team, Marcelo bowed to the 39-year-old veteran out of respect.
The 26-year-old Brazilian previously won an amazing 25 trophies, including five Champions League crowns, over 15 spectacular years in the Spanish city.
He took the field shortly after Kylian Mbappe, a newbie to the Los Blancos, was named January’s Player of the Month for his eight goals in nine games.

After Roberto Carlos and Karim Benzema, the Madrid legend became the third foreign player with the most games played for the team with 546 appearances.
Marcelo, a youthful and inexperienced player who had only played 30 senior games before, joined the Spanish team from Fluminense in 2006.
However, after Carlos left for Fenerbahce in 2007, he immediately established himself as a consistent starter in the team.
His thunderbolt against Atletico Madrid in the 2013–14 Champions League final in Lisbon, which helped Los Blancos win their tenth European cup, is among his most memorable goals.
But when Ferland Mendy, who was thought to be a more dependable choice for Los Blancos’ defense, arrived at the Santiago Bernabeu in 2019, Marcelo’s tenure as a starter in the team came to an end.
He will be remembered for his captivating demeanor and deft ball control, and he departed as an icon in 2022.
After another transfer from Olympiacos in March 2023, the left-back retired from football at his boyhood club, Fluminense, where he played 68 games and scored five goals.
“At the age of 18, Real Madrid knocked on my door and I came here,” Marcelo stated in a social media video announcing his retirement. I may now declare with pride that I am a bonafide Madrileno.
One of the captains, five Champions Leagues, twenty-six seasons, twenty-five titles, and countless unforgettable evenings at the Bernabeu. What a trip! Madrid is a special team.
“I had to give back to the club what they gave me when I returned to Fluminense.” assisting them in winning three championships, including the Copa Libertadores, and establishing Marcelo Viera Stadium as a legacy for future generations.
