Lionel Messi has declared his intention to relocate to Inter Miami rather than return to Barcelona. He revealed why in a special interview.

“The truth is that of course I would have loved to return to Barca, I would have been very happy to be able to return, but on the other hand, after what I went through and the farewell, I did not want to repeat the same situation again, which is to wait and see what happens and leave my future in the hands of others, so to speak,” Messi said in an exclusive interview with Mundo Deportivo and Sport, explaining why he did not decide to return to Barcelona. The parting at the end of the summer of 2021 was too traumatic for Messi, leaving him with an unhealed wound.

“I wanted to say goodbye like I did today with Busi (Sergio Busquets), Jordi (Alba), or as it happened with Xavi and Iniesta, so I went in an odd manner. Even though there couldn’t have been anyone at the stadium because to the pandemic, I wanted to go that way so I could say farewell to everyone in a positive way. I wanted to know that I was having fun and that I was playing with other people. I get really excited when I hear my name in Barcelona or the Nou Camp because of this.

Messi was also questioned on the reactions of his relatives to the prospect of going back to Barcelona: “Everything my family has heard has made them very happy, yet at the same time we are not very excited because we do not know what will happen. Obviously they are very eager to return. We never wanted to leave, which was very difficult, but they also supported me and it was a decision for the whole family, not just mine.

Even though they are sad to be leaving, they are glad for the change. At first, it was challenging, but they are now more accustomed to Paris.
