Amad Diallo has finally spoken out following the revelation that he sustained a training injury that could potentially end his season.
Diallo is currently undergoing evaluations after injuring himself during training this week, with expectations that he will be out for at least two months, possibly missing the remainder of the season, as reported exclusively by Mail Sport on Saturday.
This news adds to the woes of head coach Ruben Amorim, who is already without Kobbie Mainoo, Manuel Ugarte, and Toby Collyer due to injuries they incurred in training.
The forward took to social media to confirm his injury, vowing to return stronger.
Diallo’s injury is particularly disheartening, as he has transitioned from a minor role under Erik ten Hag to a pivotal player in the new coach’s system, recently signing a five-and-a-half-year contract worth approximately £100,000 per week.
After making significant contributions in attack, his absence means United will need to find a replacement for a player who has become essential to their plans.
In his social media message, Diallo expressed his disappointment, stating, “I’m really disappointed to be writing this message at such a critical time of the season. I regret to inform you that I shall be gone for a while due to an injury. I’ll return stronger than before! It’s time to lend the boys some outside help. There is still much to play for.”
The Ivory Coast international has scored six goals in his last 14 appearances, including a hat-trick in a comeback win against Southampton and crucial late goals against Manchester City and Liverpool.
With Marcus Rashford and Antony both loaned out during the January transfer window, Diallo’s absence leaves United without a No. 10 option. The situation worsens as Mainoo joins Ugarte and Collyer on the injury list.
Amorim has options like Christian Eriksen and Casemiro for the midfield against Spurs, and several academy players—Jack Moorhouse, Chido Obi-Martin, Sekou Kone, Harry Amass, and Elyh Harrison—have traveled to London.
Amorim now faces the challenge of compensating for Diallo’s recent impact on the team.
United typically travels by rail, but due to train cancellations, they had to take the team bus, which disrupted their game preparations.
When discussing the team’s condition, Amorim provided a worrying update, highlighting the absence of longer-term injuries to Lisandro Martinez, Luke Shaw, Mason Mount, and Jonny Evans. He remarked, “We had some issues two days ago, but other than that, it was a good week. We have one or two problems, but we are waiting. We don’t have players back.”
The injury crisis continues with the likes of Kobbie Mainoo also sidelined.
Martinez underwent successful surgery on Wednesday to repair a torn anterior cruciate ligament in his left knee and will be out for the rest of the season. He spent the night in a London hospital before returning to Manchester on Thursday and faces a six-month recovery period.
