ALEJANDRO GARNACHO will purchase a “punishment” supper for his Manchester United teammates following his departure from Old Trafford.

After being substituted before halftime in the midweek victory against Ipswich, the Argentina winger stormed off the field and did not come off the bench for the second half.

Amorim said after the game that he will speak with Garnacho, who was fired before Christmas and has already had a run-in with his manager.

However, the 20-year-old went to see Amorim and consented to pay for his teammates’ supper as an unofficial club “punishment” and an act of contrition.

“It was funny because the next day, he came to me, to my office,” Amorim disclosed.

After I looked into it, he changed his clothing in the dressing room because he was soaked.

He wasn’t sitting on the bench, so he watched the game from somewhere else. After it was over, he went home.

“I warned him at Manchester United that everything matters and that perception is crucial at a major club, but there isn’t a problem there.

“He will cover the cost of the team’s dinner, that’s all.”

Due to attitude issues, Garnacho and Marcus Rashford were benched for the December Manchester derby.

Since then, up to Wednesday’s incident, the United manager has praised his response and acknowledged that his players occasionally find it difficult to handle the constant attention of playing for United, particularly from social media.

“I think he knows,” he answered, “but they read everything, even the little things.

“I am aware of the players’ frustration because I know them well. He had to go off at that point in the game, even though he was performing really well.

“They have to deal with everything, even though it’s difficult. I understand contemporary football, but my goal is to help them become better players.

“With social media, it’s very different for players these days. They are concentrating so much on social media.

“You can’t visit social media without coming across a news article, a picture, or something negative to focus on.” Even if you have a hundred positive things, you will still focus on the negative ones.

Therefore, I believe it’s quite difficult for them. You could call it gentle, yet they have the ability to criticize people’s opinions, which is quite difficult to handle.

Garnacho is not suspended by the team, but he is doubtful for Sunday’s FA Cup match against Fulham after taking a knock during the Ipswich victory.
