Isco, a star for Real Betis, apologized to his old team, Real Madrid, and their supporters on Saturday night.
This follows a fervent celebration by the midfielder after he scored the game-winning goal against Carlo Ancelotti’s team.
Betis and Real Madrid faced off at the Estadio Benito Villamarín not long ago.
With the former coming into the game eager to pass bitter rivals Barcelona at the top of the league, the match was a crucial one in the ongoing battle for the La Liga championship.
But after it was all said and done, Real Madrid didn’t achieve as much.
And the previously mentioned Isco proved to be the key factor in the matter.
In the second half, Isco scored the game’s deciding goal from the penalty spot after Johnny Cardoso cancelled out Brahim Díaz’s opening goal.
In a heartfelt celebration, the former Real Madrid player, supported by his teammates, knee-slid towards the corner flag.
Many of his previous club’s supporters were taken aback by this and expressed their displeasure with Isco’s choice to celebrate.
Therefore, the 32-year-old used the chance to apologize to the media after the full-time whistle:
“I’m sorry for my celebration, Real Madrid supporters. Real Madrid has my sincere gratitude and will always hold a special place in my heart.
