The whole music industry was shocked to learn of Linkin Park frontman Chester Bennington’s passing earlier this month. Social media was used by both fans and other artists to honor the deceased rock icon and offer their sympathies to the artist’s family. Our hearts simply cannot handle the wonderful song that Jay-Z devoted to Bennington during his performance at Virgin’s V Festival this past weekend.
As you may recall, Linkin Park and Jay-Z worked together on the EP Collision Course in 2004. Jay-Z’s performance of a song from their time together was a fitting tribute to his departed friend.
Jay-Z chose “Numb/Encore,” which is undoubtedly the EP’s most well-known song and even took home the 2006 Grammy Award for “Best Rap Collaboration.”
“Can you guys light it up tonight for Chester?” Jay questioned the audience. “Tonight, Linkin Park, once. Tonight, please create some noise so that he can hear you from heaven.”
